Cycling in Normandy
For cycling in Normandy, four major bike routes cross the region: La Seine à Vélo, the Avenue Verte London-Paris, the Vélomaritime and the Véloscénie. For road cycling, the climbs are in the Suisse Normande and on the Alabaster Coast. And so you don't ride alone, local cyclists post their sessions on Buddiz.

Where to cycle in Normandy
La Seine à Vélo
Over 400 km from Paris to the sea, as far as Le Havre or Deauville, via Rouen. A route along river bends and abbeys, with few hills, best done in stages.
Avenue Verte London-Paris
The bike route linking Paris and London via the Dieppe ferry. Between Dieppe and Forges-les-Eaux it follows a greenway: car-free, ideal for families or a first long ride.
La Vélomaritime (EuroVelo 4)
It follows the coastline, from the cliffs of Le Tréport and Dieppe to the Calvados beaches and the Cotentin. Sea views guaranteed, but the wind matters as much as the hills.
La Véloscénie
From Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel: its Normandy section crosses the Perche hills and the bocage to the bay, on quiet roads.
Road cycling: Suisse Normande and Alabaster Coast
The region's real climbs: around Clécy and the Orne valley, and in the valleys running down to the sea between Le Havre and Le Tréport, short but steep.
Gravel and mountain biking around Rouen
The Forêt Verte, Roumare and La Londe-Rouvray offer miles of forest tracks a few minutes from the centre of Rouen.
When to cycle in Normandy?
From April to October for long distances. On the coast, check the wind direction before choosing which way to ride. Winter riding works too, mostly on the road: forest tracks get very muddy.
Good habits
Greenways are shared with walkers: use your bell and keep your speed down. On the road, switch your lights on from autumn and take care on the narrow valley descents. Always pack a waterproof layer.
